FAQ's
What type of coffee machine is best for home use?
The best coffee machine depends on how you prefer to make coffee.
- Bean-to-cup machines are ideal if you want convenience and consistent results with minimal effort. They grind, brew, and often froth milk automatically.
- Espresso machines are better suited to those who enjoy more control over the brewing process and want café-style results at home.
- Pod machines offer speed and simplicity, making them suitable for occasional coffee drinkers or small kitchens.
At Coffee Craft Studio, we recommend choosing based on your daily routine—whether you prioritise speed, control, or simplicity.
Do I need a coffee grinder if my machine has one built in?
If you choose a bean-to-cup machine, a grinder is already integrated and designed to work specifically with that machine.
However, for manual espresso machines, a separate grinder is highly recommended. Freshly ground coffee significantly improves flavour because it preserves the natural oils and aromas of the beans.
Even among machines with built-in grinders, the quality of the grinder can affect taste. Burr grinders (used in better machines) produce a more consistent grind than blade systems, leading to better extraction and flavour.
How much should I spend on a good home coffee machine?
A quality home coffee machine typically falls into three price ranges:
- Entry-level (£100–£400): Basic machines suitable for beginners or occasional use
- Mid-range (£400–£1,200): Balanced performance and durability, suitable for most households
- Premium (£1,200+): High-end machines offering greater precision, build quality, and consistency
The best investment is usually a mid-range machine paired with a good grinder, as this combination delivers café-quality results without unnecessary complexity.
Why doesn’t my home coffee taste like a café’s?
Café-quality coffee comes down to consistency and control across several factors:
- Freshly roasted beans used at the right time
- A consistent grind size
- Correct water temperature and pressure during extraction
- Proper milk texturing for drinks like lattes and cappuccinos
Most home setups struggle in at least one of these areas. Upgrading equipment—particularly the machine and grinder—can significantly improve taste and bring your coffee much closer to café standards.
